September 16, 2016, Latter Day Pioneers Bill, Carol, Dan, and Mary embark on a twelve day 1084 mile journey encircling over 22 million acres of rugged Colorado terrain. Here are some of the pictures of our Colorado and New Mexico (Chaco Canyon) journey.

On the way to the Alpine Visitors Center atop the Rocky Mountain National Park. We topped out at 12,202. Temp in the 50's. Windy.  Wind Chill.  Teeth chattering cold. Broke out our coats so they could hug their masters. Bill survives altitude sickness attack. Revives at 9000 feet.

3/4 mile hike around Lilly Lake.

One mile hike around Sprague Lake.

Called split rock by Republicans and cracked rock by Democrats.  Official name decision remains blocked in committee.

Alpine Falls. 1.7 mile round trip hike. Lost wives. Found wives. Rule: When hiking with wives hold hands stay together. End of our hikes in the Rocky Mountain National Park.

I never met a pig I didn't like-especially for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Dan said. Is this Napoleon, Squealer or Snowball? Are these intelligent animals called Swine, hogs, or pigs? Duroc breed right? So many questions so little time. Unfortunately it is not an acorn eating Iberian.

We drove from Bloomfield NM to Alamosa CO. This is one of the roadside views along the way.

Grand Dunes National Park. Transverse dunes. The other three types are star, barchan, & reversing. How far up the dunes did Dan and Bill hike?

19 mile drive from base to summit. 7400 foot elevation gain. One half tank of gas-at minimum. Cold. Very cold. 29 degrees cold plus wind chill. Random oxygen molecules hard to find. Beautiful view. See slide show below.

Chapel standing majestically at the Airforce Academy. Interestingly Protestants worship upstairs. Catholics, Buddists, Muslims and Jewish worshippers are downstairs. A few pictures of the chapel follow.

Here we are in Florissant Colorado visiting petrified redwood trees and assorted fossils. Which one below is the tsetse fly? Gone but not forgotten. Now inhabits the Sahara and mid-continent Africa.

I am afraid your standard locomotive won't fit on our narrow gauge tracks going over the gorge bridge. Uh huh. Uh huh.  Well let me put it to you this way in the form of a question: you got a lot of insurance on yourself so your wife and kids will be OK after your violent passing? Click....Hello? Hello?
